WEEKEND OF OCTOBER 6 - 8
In what was their toughest game so far this season the Powerpress Works Atom Bears were able to pull out a win over the Wentworth Panthers with a 9 -8 win. With the win the Bears are now 6 and 0 and have clinched first place in the Atom division of the Southwestern Ontario Football Association of Leagues (Sofal) . Scoring for the Bears were Charles Carrier with a Td and Jordon Hofstra with a convert for 1 point and the defense forcing Wentworth to take a safety for the final 2 points. Having big games on defense were linebackers Colby Tapson, Alex Lacelle and Owen White, with defensive linemen Evan Black and Colin Brennan making several key tackles in the Wentworth backfield to preserve the win. The Bears next game will be in Kitchener on Sat Oct 13 at 12:00.
WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 29 - 30
The Guelph Powerworks Press Bears continued to roll in the Atom division with another convincing win, this one a 35 - 7 score over the Twincities Warhawks, to give them their 6th win a row. The offence once again were able to put everything together in the 2nd half scoring 3 tds in the 3rd Quarter, with special teams contributing with 2 kickoff recoveries. With the offence on the field so much in the 3rd quarter the defense were only on the field for 2 plays in the 3rd quarter and one of those plays resulted in a fumble recovery. Scoring for the Bears was Jordon Hofstra with 2 Tds, Zachary Coponio, Evan Geddis and Alex Turvey with one Td each, Hofstra and Geddis also scored 1 point converts, completing the scoring was Owen White on defense with a 2 point safety. Playing strong games on defense were Alex Lacelle with several key tackles, along with the defensive line of led by Evan Black and Coilin Brennan. Next game for the Bears is Monday Oct 8th at Guelph Lakes Sports field against the team in 2nd place the Wentworth Panthers at 5 and 1. With a win in this game the Bears would be able to lock up first place for the regular season in Sofal.
WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 22 - 23
The Guelph Atom Bears, sponsored by Power Press Works made it 5 wins in a row and the 3rd shuout in a row with a 26-0 win over the Brantford Bisons, with the win the Bears record stands at 5-0 for 1st place in the White Atom division in SOFAL. Offensive players of the game were Quarterback Job Reinhart and running backs Evan Geddis and Liam McCormack. Leading the defense with several tackles and QB sacks were Nick Parisotto and Alex Lacelle. The Bears next game will be Sunday, September 30th @ 1:00pm at the Guelph Lake Sports Fields, against the Twin Cities Warhawks.
WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 15 - 16
The Atom Bears put forth another strong defensive game holding the Twin Cities Condors to just 3 first downs in the game as the Bears won their fourth in a row by a score of 32 – 0. Leading the defense was Nick Parisotto with 3 fumble recoveries, with one being recovered for a touchdown. Also with a strong game was Owen white with several key tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Zach Sephton had an interception as well. Four Quarterback sacks rounded out the day for the defense.
Even though the offense scored on the first drive of the game with a touchdown by Jordon Hofstra, it wasn’t until near the end of the second quarter and into the second half that they were able to move the ball well, with drives of 75, 80 and 65 yards all for touchdowns. Scoring touchdowns were Evan Geddis, Alex Turvey and Charles Antoine Carrier, with Evan Geddis and Jordon Hofstra also adding 1 point converts.
WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 8 - 9
The Guelph Atom Bears improved their record to 3 and 0 with a convincing 40 - 0 win over the previously unbeaten Brantford Bisons 1 team at the Gretzky Center in Brantford on Sunday Sept. 9th. Starting quarterback Job Reinhart threw for 3 TD passes and almost 200 yds in the first half of the game, with passes for TDs being caught by Evan Geddis and 2 by Alex Turvey who also converted 2 point-after attempts for 2 more points. Also scoring on offense were ( PJ ) Pawanjit Rull with a TD and Jordon Hofstra with 2 TDs and Mitchell Norman with a convert. The defense was led by Colin Brennan and Alex Lacelle with very strong second half performances as the defense did not allow the Bisons 1 a first down in the entire second half of the game. Also playing a strong game on defense was wide receiver Charles Antoine-Carrier as he filled in at defensive back for several plays throughout the game. Next game for the Atom Bears will be 12:00 Noon Sunday Sept 16th at John F. Ross high school.
